As an essential component of the drive units of plant, machinery and commercial vehicles, the drive shaft is subjected to high stresses, especially when used in harsh environments.

Companies carry out maintenance work at regular intervals to ensure full functionality. The current condition of the equipment to be maintained and thus its actual maintenance requirements are often not known. As a rule, the cause is not investigated until a failure occurs and then the required spare part is ordered. This leads to unnecessary delays and expensive production downtime.

Innovative sensory components as a gamechanger

To counteract this, the market leader "Elbe Group" has developed an innovative product family of sensory drive shafts in cooperation with core sensing. The intelligent components continuously provide data about their condition. Potential problems can thus be detected and remedied in good time. Cost-intensive downtimes are significantly reduced. What many plant and vehicle manufacturers have been wishing for is finally becoming reality.

The intelligence of the next-generation drive shaft is located inside a standard drive shaft. For this purpose, core sensing has integrated its intelligent sensors and measurement electronics into the existing cavity of the component. The strain gauges built into the drive shaft were individually provided by Hottinger Brüel & Kjaer (HBK) and optimally adapted to the environmental conditions of the application in terms of geometric dimensions, material and temperature tolerance.

The design-integrated sensor provides highly precise real-time information about the acting torque directly from the drive shaft. This information allows reliable conclusions to be drawn about the condition of the shaft and surrounding components. The user can therefore rely on precise measurement results.
