Use Case

Screws Detect tightening torques intelligently

Bolts are an inexpensive, universally applicable fastening element and part of every machine. A particular advantage of screw connections is the simple and often repeatable assembly and disassembly.
This is done with the aid of different tightening methods, for example with a wrench and socket wrench. In combination with a ratchet, large tightening torques can be realized easily and quickly using the lever.

Challenge

However, it must be noted that both excessive tightening torque, which causes thread plasticization, and insufficient tightening torque, which can lead to insufficient clamping force and can also cause the screw to loosen itself, can have serious consequences. It is therefore essential to determine and maintain the optimum torque.

Solution

Specially made digital and mechanical torque wrenches exist for this purpose, which emit acoustic or optical signals when the predefined maximum is reached. For quality assurance and documentation, it is also advisable to monitor the torque and angle during assembly.

In a simple socket adapter, core sensing shows how torque and angle of rotation can be easily monitored. Through the integrated sensor package coreIN more than the achievement of the maximum torque can be displayed: The entire torque and angle of rotation curve can be recorded and evaluated in high resolution. Using the coreINSIGHT analysis tool, irregularities during the bolting process and faulty connections can be identified.

The sensor automatically goes into an energy-saving sleep mode, detects predefined bolting cases and documents them automatically - including export to .csv files.

Especially for special tools, core sensing technology thus offers great potential for the bolting industry.
